Tenure:3 years initially (extendable to 5 years)
Commitment:10 - 14 days per year (plus meeting attendance)
Location:UK-based (hybrid working with UK travel)
Remuneration:Review days are remunerated in accordance with a day rate as agreed, with payment made either directly to the postholder or to their employing organisation, depending on whose time the work is carried out in.
About this opportunity:
We are seeking to appoint a Deputy Medical Director to support the delivery of the Royal College of Physicians’ Invited Reviews service.
This clinically led consultancy supports NHS organisations where concerns have been raised about individual clinicians or services. You will support the medical director in reviewing requests, undertaking and in time chairing formal reviews, and quality assuring reports to ensure that recommendations are clear, achievable and evidence-based.
You must be a practising physician, a fellow of the RCP in good standing, and have experience of working in senior leadership roles. You will be able to work collaboratively, provide professional and considered feedback, and help the service maintain its strong reputation with external stakeholders.
Experience
- All officers of the RCP are encouraged to be practising medical doctors at the time of appointment and actively connected with, and credible to, the clinical community.
- Demonstrable ability to provide leadership and create consensus.
- Experience in a senior leadership role.
- Ability to self-reflect and support the values of the organisation.
- Ability to work collaboratively across specialties and institutions, as well as between different career stages of doctors and with staff at all levels.
- Ability to chair meetings professionally and give difficult feedback.
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment with clinical and non-clinical colleagues.
- Experience of building networks and relationships.
- Experience of visiting hospitals/healthcare organisations to assess educational and/or clinical provision.
- Experience of using structured judgement review tools.
- Previous experience of peer review.
