As Associate Professor of Medical Education and Lead for Year 1, you will take a senior leadership role in developing, delivering, and overseeing the first year of the five-year Undergraduate Medicine Curriculum 2026. You will lead Year 1 of the course, The Art of Medicine, focusing on embedding foundational skills into the early student experience such as self-regulated learning, reflective practice, communication skills, professionalism and managing wellbeing. You will play a critical role in shaping the professional identity of future doctors and ensuring a smooth transition from secondary to higher education. You will also oversee a large group of Educational Supervisors, supporting them in their role and enhancing their skills in delivering student feedback.

This role represents an exciting opportunity for an experienced academic leader to drive innovation in early medical education, fostering a safe and inclusive environment for student development and supporting educational supervisors in delivering high-quality mentoring.

About You

You will have the ability to design and deliver teaching and learning programmes, skills in developing and organising teaching activities and have experience in coaching and developing others in best practice techniques.

You will have a high level of research and/or teaching experience in a relevant discipline, normally supported by a PhD; HESA-Recognised teaching qualification, at least to Associate Fellowship of Advance HE or recognised equivalent. You will also have a record of excellence in medical undergraduate teaching with evidence of innovation in curriculum development and delivery with a commitment of delivery of quality services to students. Your Skills of leadership in teaching and curriculum development will be underpinned by scholarship within the field of medical education.

You will also have knowledge and experience of the development of policy and administrative matters within a Faculty or University.
