Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Network Engineer with at least 5 years of experience in network engineering. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of network Layer 2, Layer 3, and Layer 4 protocols, Wireless protocols and a solid background in designing, implementing, and maintaining network infrastructure. A CCNA certification (or similar/higher) obtained within the last 5 years is required, and an understanding of SD-WAN and SASE is highly desirable. This is a remote role, with occasional travel to stations as needed. A full UK driving license is required.
Working Hours & On-Call:
This role involves static working hours of of 3:30 PM – 11:30 PM (GMT/BST) Monday to Friday
Additionally, the successful candidate will be part of an on-call rota (1 week in every 5 weeks) to provide out-of-hours support as required.
Job Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and maintain network infrastructure, ensuring high availability and security.
- Troubleshoot and resolve network issues across various layers and platforms (Layer 2, Layer 3, and Layer 4 protocols, wireless, AWS and Azure).
- Support and maintain cloud WAF
- Perform routine network maintenance, upgrades, and patches to ensure optimal performance and security.
- Work closely with other IT teams to ensure seamless integration of network services with other systems and applications.
- Implement and manage Meraki, Ubiquiti and SASE solutions for improved network flexibility and security.
- Provide support for network-related incidents and requests tickets, ensuring timely resolution and minimal downtime.
- Develop and maintain documentation for network configurations, processes, and troubleshooting guides.
- Travel to stations for on-site support and network installations when required.
- Stay up to date with emerging networking technologies, best practices, and industry trends.
Qualifications and Competencies:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a network engineering role.
- In-depth knowledge and experience with Layer 2, Layer 3, and Layer 4 networking protocols (e.g., Ethernet, IP, TCP/IP, BGP). Wireless protocols (e.g., WPA3, Wi-Fi 6E/7)
- Current CCNA or similar/higher certification (obtained within the last 5 years).
- Basic understanding of SD-WAN and SASE technologies
- Experience with Cisco Meraki hardware and Dashboard.
- Proficiency in configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting routers, switches, firewalls, and other network devices.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to work independently.
- Excellent communication skills for collaboration with internal teams and clients.
- Ability to work remotely and manage time effectively while meeting deadlines.
- Full UK driving license and ability to travel to stations as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Additional certifications such as CCNP, JNCIA, or equivalent.
- Experience with cloud networking, automation, or security solutions.
- Experience with Ubiquiti networking and security solutions.
- Familiarity with network monitoring and management tools.
