Mechanical Design Engineer

We’re looking for an experienced CAD Mechanical Design Engineer to join a fast-growing engineering team at the forefront of advanced charging solutions for the commercial transport sector. Based in, Birmingham, this is a fantastic opportunity to help develop cutting-edge technology that supports the shift to low-carbon transport.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for the mechanical and packaging design of innovative electrical systems. You’ll convert electrical schematics into detailed manufacturing information, support prototype development, and ensure compliance with UK and international standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop mechanical assemblies for energy systems, including enclosures, racks, thermal and structural components
  • Interpret electrical schematics and integrate mechanical solutions accordingly
  • Conduct thermal and structural simulations to validate your designs
  • Maintain BOMs, CAD models, and detailed engineering drawings
  • Collaborate with internal teams and suppliers to ensure cost-effective and high-quality outcomes
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments and FMEAs
  • Support prototype assembly, testing and documentation across the full product lifecycle

What we’re looking for:

  • Proficient in Autodesk Inventor & AutoCAD within a Vault environment
  • Skilled in developing libraries, iPart/iAssembly, BoM structures, and staged build models
  • Experience with simulation tools such as Ansys for thermal and mechanical analysis (preferred)
  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Strong communication and project coordination skills
  • Experience working with electrical network-connected products; SME experience is a plus
  • Interest in clean energy technologies and a practical, problem-solving mindset

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of renewable energy systems or power electronics
  • Understanding of high-voltage system safety
  • Experience with PLM systems and change processes
  • Exposure to lithium-ion battery technology or similar energy storage systems
