London - Hybrid working
This is a high-impact leadership opportunity with a global (re)insurer, supporting group-wide underwriting governance and portfolio oversight. Partnering closely with the Underwriting Portfolio Director, you'll drive strategic decision-making and ensure robust governance across underwriting and outwards reinsurance.
Oversight
- Lead the monthly oversight process including committee reporting, binder governance, and delegated underwriting authority management.
- Manage coverholder audits and delegated/sub-delegated authority scoping, ensuring findings are reported and escalated appropriately.
- Act as SME for underwriting and outwards RI oversight, aligning with Service Management Oversight Framework requirements.
- Maintain and execute underwriting authority governance both internally and with trading partners.
Governance
- Oversee adherence to underwriting principles, risk and control frameworks, and outsourcing/RI arrangements.
- Maintain underwriting governance documentation (TORs, SOPs) that reflects business needs.
- Coordinate with business partners to ensure accurate reporting of binder metrics, premium limits, and audit outcomes.
- Respond to internal audits, ensuring governance controls are operating effectively across internal teams and trading partners.
Planning
- Support underwriting strategy by aligning partner plans with the company’s risk appetite.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to support onboarding, service delivery, and continuous improvement.
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to the broader cultural and strategic development of the organisation.
About You
You’ll bring a detail-oriented, analytical approach backed by strong experience in underwriting governance, controls, and oversight. A solid understanding of delegated authorities, reinsurance operations, and underwriting frameworks is essential—ideally gained in a regulated or SEC-reporting environment.
What you’ll need:
- Strong experience in the global specialty (re)insurance sector, ideally in an oversight or governance-focused role.
- Deep familiarity with multi-class portfolios including property RI.
- Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration experience.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, international environment.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
- CII qualifications desirable.
