Fine Art Shipping Manager

Job Description

A small, highly functioning private art dealership and investment firm is looking for a Shipping Manager, starting ASAP.


Candidates should be proactive, driven, self-sufficient and with 7+ years of relevant experience. 


Main duties: 

-              UK and Europe-based fine art imports and exports, ensuring that artworks are shipped in line with local Customs regulations and to a museum-quality standard of packing and transportation 

-              Liaise with Customs agents and authorities to fully import artworks for client, where needed, and assist with installation planning 

-              Co-ordinate the establishment of a new Temporary Admission agreement with HMRC 

-              Assisting with managing the insurance policy and arrangements for the company 

-              Preparing shipping documentation on incoming and outgoing artworks; maintaining well organised files and assisting with developing new tracking systems 

-              Maintain and develop good working relationships with customs agents and shipping companies in the UK, Europe and ROW

-              Act as a key go-between and contact person for UK and Europe-based fine art shipping updates – keep on top of changing rules and requirements 

-              Assist with scheduling a team of London-based fine art technicians for local and international client projects


Skills and attributes needed:

-              Strong, provable working understanding of customs procedures and regulations in the UK, Europe and ROW, including artwork duties and taxes 

-              Keen working interest in fine art shipping news, current events and changing international regulations

-              Existing working relationships with shipping and logistics companies 

-              Hands-on logistics co-ordination and ‘out of the box’ thinking 

-              Excellent communication and ability to work and problem-solve independently, whilst reporting back to team members 

-              Excellent time-management, clarity and focus on multiple tasks whilst under pressure

-              High level of computer literacy, including Excel, Word and Gmail

-              Has a high level of initiative, strict attention to detail, follow-through and self-motivation
